Polymers: Information and Activity Book

From The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC), this book is aimed at post-16 chemistry students but will also be useful for students following technology or vocational courses. The book helps students to first understand the basis of polymer chemistry and the plastics industry. It moves on to consider detailed information on individual polymers, including the reaction conditions for the large scale manufacture of the monomers and polymers, together with some of the processes used to convert the polymer to a useful plastic or fibre.

Consideration is given to aspects such as raw materials, energy costs, economics, environmental impacts and recycling.

Students activities are included and practical work is set out in detail.
