Light - How We See Things

From Teachers TV, this video is part of the Lesson Starters series. It illustrates five different approaches to starting primary science lessons on light and seeing. At the end of each short clip, a question is posed to stimulate class discussion.

The different scenarios are:
• A man looking for his black dog in a dark wood. How does his torchlight help him find his dog?
• A mini-documentary about a man who is almost completely blind. Watch a representation of what he sees and explore why he is unable to see.
• A shadowgraph playlet, where the puppeteer uses a light source to dramatic effect, creating shadows to tell a traditional moral fable.
• A light show gives a behind-the-scenes look at theatrical moving lights, with coloured beams of light dancing to the music.
• See what happens when light is excluded from our eyes. Six children wear blindfolds and have to depend on their other senses when they are led to a table full of weird and wonderful party food.
