Nuffield Advanced Biology Topic Review: Human Pregnancy and Birth

Published by the Nuffield Foundation, the Nuffield Advanced Biology Topic Reviews for students were an integral part of the Advanced Biological Science materials, but each could be read on its own. Thus, students could use them for their current work, or to pursue personal interests.

This topic review described the ovarian and menstrual cycles and the stages of pregnancy from fertilisation to birth. The review also described anti-natal care and preparation for childbirth, as at the time of publication in 1972, before going on to outline the stages of labour, birth and the early development of the baby. The booklet touched on problems such as infertility and miscarriages.
