Practice Book 1a
These materials, produced by the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CIMT) for the primary extension of the Mathematics Enhancement Programme, include the pages from Practice Book 1a with detailed lesson plans and all necessary resources to accompany them.
The lessons introduce students to descriptive terms and they learn about number recognition by relating images to a value, as well as writing the numbers themselves. They learn to count up to 10 using the steps of a ladder, distinguishing between even and odd values. Images are used to introduce number bonds as well as the mathematical notation for addition and subtraction. Students learn to recognise shapes and some of their properties, while games, stories and songs are used to enhance learning.
There are daily lesson plans covering 18 weeks and each plan is complete with teacher and student activities, together with key questions and references to the pages in the practice book.
