Tube Lines, Improve and Upgrade

This London Engineering Project case study of an integrated science and engineering, from the Royal Academy of Engineeringy, was designed around an industry context and delivered as part of National Science and Engineering Week in 2009.

The project was carried out in conjunction with Tube Lines, a major contractor of London Underground, and parts could be replicated for other projects on sustainable urban transport. Students were given a brief for the project, team roles, a budget and materials, and the support of STEM Ambassadors. They then designed a vehicle to run on rails using a capacitor system and walkways for the station.
