Let's Investigate

These ASE resources illustrate an approach to investigations for students with specific, moderate or severe learning difficulties in a special school. The ideas described here are used to help individual students progress and can be applied to any mainstream or special school situation.

Let's Investigate uses a common structure that can be applied and individualised for specific science assessments. The proforma included presents the stages for an assessment in two formats; using everyday language or with scientific names. The individual examples show how students can be presented with a choice of statements to encourage them to plan and record their assessment. This method is accessible to all students and they can progress to using tick box methods, or writing their own individual investigations, within the same framework.
