Career Clips: Solar Energy Researcher
Using solar cells to generate electricity can be a valuable source of power for remote communities in developing nations that do not have an extensive power distribution grid. This film follows a PhD student as her research into photovoltaic cells takes her to an academic conference in Hawaii. We see her at work back in the laboratory, where she is working to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic cells. The video also looks at the use of solar panels to generate a source of renewable energy.

Career Clips: Energy Efficiency and Architecture
This six minute film showcases the design of energy-efficient buildings. It follows the work of an architect's office and shows how an understanding of heat transfer and thermal insulation is applied in the design of modern buildings. In addition to illustrating the careers in which physics plays a part, it also explains concepts such as heat transfer, conduction, convection, radiation and thermal conductivity. The application of these concepts is shown in the real-life situation of building design.
Spacecraft structures engineer
This video presents Abbie Hutty, a spacecraft structures engineer who currently works on the X Mars Rover mission. Abbie emphasises the fact that it is a very sociable career, as it requires working with specialists from different departments. Abbie was inspired to become an engineer by her teacher. At school, Abbie enjoyed art and design as well as maths and physics. After her GCSE's, she became interested in the aerospace industry and decided to pursue a career in engineering.

Here are 5 videos of people who work at Cammell Laird, the shipyard responsible for the building of the RRS Sir David Attenborough. They range from early career apprentices to those who have worked their way up the ladder to be Principal Engineer. You can hear about their inspirations, what skills they use in their job and how they can transfer this into their home life. You can also show your pupils the type of work they get up to on a daily basis and what they get out of their roles.
