This unit is for pupils who are already familiar with the material covered in the "Pythagoras' Theorem and trigonometry" list. This unit covers the more advanced topics of the Sine and Cosine rules.
Lesson 1 - Make sure pupils are sharp with trigonometry skills. Use the Random trig resource. Then extend knowledge using the UKMT questions.
Lesson 2 - Introduce the Sine rule using the Powerpoint resource. Follow this up with some standard textbook questions. There are some notes to print out for pupils.
Lesson 3 - Introduce the Cosine rule using the Powerpoint resource. Follow this up with some standard textbook questions. There are some notes to print out for pupils.
Lesson 4 - The Nuffield resource provides a good miscellaneous exercise on page 237.

This is a flash application that generates random trigonometry problems. You can select missing side or missing angle or a combination of both. Either use as a whole class teaching tool, or pupils could use themselves on individual laptops. The latter method will have the advantage of all pupils beig given different questions, thus promoting discussion about methods for solving between pupils.
Extent the pupils learning with some difficult problems from the UK Maths Challenge. Questions 14, 16, 18 on this resource contain content on Pythagoras' theorem and Trigonometry. You will probably need to give a lot of support on these questions. Alternatively they could be used for whole class teaching. More of these questions can be found at the link below.
The Pdf on Sine and Cosine rule provides a nice summary sheet for pupils to use as notes.
