Science and Technology Facilities Council: Space Resources
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is an independent, non-departmental public body. It is a science-driven organisation, making it possible for a broad range of scientists to do the highest quality research tackling some of the most fundamental scientific questions. This collection contains resources that can be used in the classroom. They illustrate the STFC's work in areas such as particle physics, astronomy and cosmology. The collection includes information on: * Cassini-Huygens * ExoMars mission * Herschel Telescope * Robotic Telescopes * Venus Express * What is astrobiology? * The Large Hadron Collider * The Search for Gravitational Waves

The Structure of Matter
This poster looks at the structure of matter. One side of the poster discusses the limits of imaging with light and the use of electron microscopes, and looks at the 20th century pioneers – from J. J. Thomson’s plum pudding model, through Rutherford and Chadwick’s advances in understanding the nucleus, to the use...
Antimatter - Matter's Hidden Shadow
This poster looks at the nature of antimatter. One side of the poster discusses Dirac’s prediction and the subsequent discovery of antimatter, in the form of the positron. The difficulty of the storage of antimatter is explained and the use of positrons in medical imaging (PET scanners) is described. The other side...
Explore Your Universe: Atoms to Astrophysics Handbook and School Activities
Explore Your Universe is a partnership between the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The vision for the project is to inspire a new sense of excitement amongst young people and their families through telling the amazing stories and...
Thermal engineering for space
RAL Space is the UK’s national space laboratory where our thermal engineers and technicians help design and build spacecraft. They make sure that the components will work correctly and are protected in the extreme temperatures of space by using a special type of insulation. In this activity and presentation, pupils...
