Investigations in applied biology and biotechnology

These investigations are for pupils in the third year upwards, particularly those working towards GCSE and Standard Grade examinations in biology and science. Student's sheets are photocopiable masters complemented by teacher's notes which give extra guidance for the investigations.

Fifty wide ranging and thought provoking investigations, together with comprehensive teacher's notes, introduce aspects of applied biology and biotechnology in a form suitable for all abilities. Investigations are rooted in everyday reality - industrial and economic aspects of "biology" are emphasized throughout.

Tried and tested in school, each investigation is followed by questions with an accompanying mark scheme which is designed to test understanding and assess specific scientific skills. "Taking it Further" sections contain suggestions for project work suitable for groups and individuals.
