Secondary mathematics conference: keynote speakers announced
In October, the National STEM Learning Centre will be hosting our Secondary mathematics conference designed to help you challenge and support your mathematics department.
Our upcoming mathematics conference on 20 October 2017 is all about helping your mathematics department to succeed when delivering the new mathematics specifications. It’s the perfect opportunity for senior leaders, heads of department or others who have a role in challenging and supporting mathematics in your secondary school or college.
We’re delighted to announce our three keynote speakers; Dr Colin Foster, Jane Jones HMI and Carol Knights. These three leading figures in mathematics education will take you through the fundamentals of good maths teaching, what Ofsted are going to look for in your school and what support is out there for your maths department.

Colin Foster is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Research in Mathematics Education in the School of Education at the University of Nottingham whose research interests in mathematics education focus on the learning and teaching of mathematical problem solving and the design of rich tasks and their use in the mathematics classroom.

Jane Jones, Her Majesty’s Inspector, is Ofsted’s National Lead for Mathematics. This role includes the provision of advice to Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, Ministers, the Department for Education and other stakeholders, based on Ofsted’s evidence of mathematics provision in primary and secondary schools.
