Frequently asked questions

Anyone over 17 years old in the UK with enthusiasm for promoting STEM to young people can apply to become a STEM Ambassador.

Absolutely!

We request a minimum of one volunteering commitment yearly, but doing more is greatly appreciated by both us and those you're assisting.

To become a STEM Ambassador, register here.

The registration process takes about 10 minutes, after which you will need to verify your email address via a link that we will send to you. After this, within 5 working days, you will be sent an invite to complete the STEM Ambassador induction. The induction can be done in around 1 hour but you can take it at your own pace. Once complete, you will be emailed within 5 working days with a login to complete your DBS form. The amount of time this takes varies for different people as you need to have certain documents to hand. Part of the DBS is to have your documentation verified via an online app. Once the application is sent off, it should be returned in around 2 weeks.

Please don't record previous volunteering before becoming a STEM Ambassador.

Yes, but STEM Ambassadors is a volunteering programme and you could only record activities that you do as a volunteer.

If your DBS has a record, a Manager from the STEM Ambassador Programme will arrange a meeting. You'll need to provide the original certificate and answer questions. The Manager, with input from others, will decide on your suitability to become a STEM Ambassador.

Your certificate must be an enhanced child workforce certificate that is registered with the update service. Once you’ve completed the STEM Ambassador induction, you can set up a Teams meeting with someone from our registration team who will need to view your current and valid DBS certificate and relevant ID. Contact saregistration@stem.org.uk for more information.

Sign up for one of our free information sessions via Eventbrite here. These are live sessions delivered over Teams with lots of information and the opportunity to ask questions.

We recommend following our Eventbrite page to be notified of future webinars and events.

First try logging into your website account. If this doesn’t work your account may have been archived. To find out if this is the case, contact saregistration@stem.org.uk with your full name and the email you signed up with if possible. If your DBS /PVG certificate is still valid your account can quickly be re-activated. If your certificate has expired you’d need to renew this before being approved as a STEM Ambassador again.
