Mission X: Mission Ex-cellent! - an update

The Evington Astronauts have now completed 4 of the Level 1 activities, and we are having a blast!

We started with ‘Speed of light’, which was interesting, because we initially thought that we would see youth ‘out- do’ the oldie teachers in this task. In actual fact we realised that this wasn’t necessarily so, with a couple of teachers having much faster reactions than some of the children! This taught us a great deal about the importance of practise.

Task 2 was ‘Mission Control’, where we spent a Friday afternoon hitting a succession of tennis balls against the school wall. We decided to observe the style of one particular pupil who had great balance. We experimented with changing our posture and positioning to see whether that would help our balance.

Our favourite challenge so far was task 3 ‘Hydration Station’. A very interesting session where we learned a great deal about hydration, staying hydrated and the signs and dangers of dehydration. We put together some interesting ‘samples’ demonstrating the different levels of hydration. Fabulous homework was completed on personal levels of hydration.

Challenge 4 was ‘Microbial Box’, where amongst other things we experimented with glittery hands, demonstrating just how quickly germs (good and bad) can be spread. An important lesson on hygiene.

A fabulous first few weeks on Mission X. We are looking forward to moving onto Level 2 and the challenges which await us there.

Thank you ESERO for this fabulous opportunity to help us understand what training like an astronaut is all about.
