STEMgineers Carousel workshop provides students with a range of exciting, team driven engineering challenges to engage with and complete. Generally students will have 45mins to 1 hour at each activity station and there are a variety of different station options available to schools.
Standard challenge options are:
Tower Challenge: Students work in teams to construct the tallest tower using straws.
Architecture Challenge: Students use wooden blocks to construct their own bridge or free-standing structure.
Hydraulics Challenge: Students work from instructions to build a hydraulics actuation system for an aircraft. When complete, they should be able to operate their aircraft’s landing gear, brakes, ailerons and flaps. This activity requires access to water and a non-slippery surface.
Electronics Challenge: Students work to build a variety of different electronic circuits using bulbs, motors, resistors, switches, alarms and many more.
Bonus challenge options include:
Virtual Reality Experience: Students can explore some of the world’s most impressive engineering structures using Virtual Reality
Robotics Coding Challenge: Students are tasked with coding a robotic vehicle around a course
Each station activity typically lasts an hour but we can adapt the session to suit your school’s needs and timings.
We can have up to 64 students taking part at a time.
All staff are Enhanced DBS and Emergency Paediatric First Aid trained.
Costs vary dependent upon the activities chosen and therefore staffing requirements. Please get in touch to find out more about this STEM experience.
Students will take part in between 4-6 different STEM activities. They will achieve in each activity but the priority is that children have fun with STEM and their confidence to take part in STEM learning improves.
Students will build successful towers, complete working electric circuits of varying difficulty, develop hands-eye coordination and build working hydraulics systems. To book this activity, please contact:
The STEM Directory is provided as a service to support you in finding enrichment opportunities. The activities are offered by external providers and are not endorsed by STEM Learning. We are not responsible for their content or delivery.
Grants for school
The Royal Institution runs two enrichment and enhancement grant schemes. Grants of up to £500 are available to UK-registered state schools to host a STEM activity selected from the STEM Directory.
There are a number of other organisations that offer grants to schools.
