Evaluation of the Wellcome Trust Primary Science Specialist Programme
Published in 2015, the Wellcome Trust worked with the National STEM Learning Centre and Network to develop an intensive CPD programme for primary teachers with the aim of improving their expertise to become effective leaders of science in their schools. The Trust commissioned the University of York to help them understand the impacts of the CPD programme using a randomised controlled trial (RCT) that followed participants throughout the delivery of the CPD and for a year afterwards.
The reports provide rich data that explore quantifiable impacts and the factors in schools that can influence the success of CPD.
There are three reports from this work:
* The full report of the evaluation with an introductory foreword
* A comparison of qualitative measures which looks in more detail at the information gained from case study visits to participating schools
*A case study report exploring teachers perceptions of a RCT together with recommendations for future use of RCTs in education
The full collection of STEM Learning impact and evaluation research reports can be viewed here.
