A Framework for the School Curriculum

Published in January 1980, this report sets out preliminary views on the form that a framework for the proposed National Curriculum should take and the ground it should cover. The ideas were presented to start a consultation process, leading to a curriculum that would apply to schools nationally and promote consistency, efficiency and responsiveness to national needs.

The reports makes 35 points separate points and states the aims and proposed structure of the education system. It specifies the importance of continuing English and mathematics teaching throughout the compulsory education years and the need for a consistent approach to science education in the primary years, to prepare students for the secondary curriculum.
