Geometry from the Playground

This video resource from Teachers TV shows Debbie Johnson, Director of Learning for Mathematics at Wilden school in Hampshire, and AST Natasha Cowan, with a group of Year Nine students who are investigating the mathematics of playground equipment. Photographs, taken in the playground, and dimensions of the equipment are uploaded into Geometer's Sketchpad and used by the students to calculate gradients, angles and circumference of a circle. Students are engaged throughout the lesson, demonstrating creative thinking and independent learning.
