Studies in Awareness of Science: Student's Book
The Student’s book for Studies in Awareness of Science, published by John Murray, contained sections on how scientists collect data, design experiments and use statistical techniques to draw conclusions from the results obtained. The authors expected that much of the material would be unfamiliar to those studying A level science (particularly physicists or chemists). They regretted that these specialists were often ignorant of these wider scientific ideas. The plan was that this book would provide the background knowledge, understanding and skills which students needed to work on the options.
The inclusion of examples drawn from psychology and medicine aimed to make the material controversial and related to personal experience. The hope was that this would make the studies more accessible to non-scientists and a useful addition to an A level science course.
