Peer mentoring in engineering
Produced in 2011 by the Learning Skills Improvement Service, these materials help to demonstrate effective practice. From City College Norwich, this case study looks at the theme of equality and diversity. Peer mentoring has proved successful in many professional development projects to enhance the knowledge and confidence of tutors.
This project looks at developing peer mentoring amongst learners in engineering to support their study and enhance flexible approaches to teaching and learning to suit individual learner’s needs. ‘Achieve and success’ sessions were introduced to train students in becoming effective mentors and enhancing their skills in working collaboratively with their peers. A good measure of success has been the increase in grade levels on the course involved over the last three years.
