Small Beginnings: Introducing Digital Microscopes in Physical Science

This booklet is part of the ‘Innovations in Practical Work’ series published by the Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme (SEP). Using digital microscopes gives students the opportunity to practise and extend their ICT skills, and offers important benefits in learning science and extending the range of teaching approaches. It allows the whole class to see the same images ‘live’, and experiments can be left running with the results recorded for future use. The booklet considers how digital microscopy can be used in the physical sciences in the early years of the secondary school, and provides some basic background information about microscopy.
