The Discovery of the Electric Current
This is one of the six Background Books published for Stage I of the Nuffield Chemistry Sample Scheme. The books were highly illustrated and designed to be attractive. This book describes aspects of the history of chemistry by exploring the discovery of chemical cells and batteries.
There are two parts to this book:
*Part 1 Galvani
An outline account of Galvani’s experiments with frogs muscles and his theory to account for his observations.
*Part 2 Volta
An account of Volta’s work on cells and batteries and his explanation for his observations.
This book was published in 1967. It tells stories that are of interest and worth reading today.
