The deployment of science and maths leaders in primary schools
This report, published in October 2013, highlights the findings of a Welcome Trust study which sought to find a better understanding of how primary schools in England lead, manage and teach science and maths. The study uses three main sources of evidence: an online quantitative survey of 209 schools; a set of qualitative interviews; and three case study schools.
The report details the two main models for science teaching in schools, exploring advantages and disadvantages of each. It also looks at what would improve the leadership of science and mathematics in schools. Case studies of three different models used in primary schools are provided, to articulate how three different deployment models of science leadership work in practice.
