Halogens, noble gases and transition metals

The resources in this list cover the properties of halogens, nobel gases and transition metals.

At GCSE, students need to understand how the properties and reactions of an element can be predicted by its position in the periodic table. There are good experiments in the list that allow students to study the transition metals and also some really great videos of reactions of the halogens that are too violent to be carried out in the classroom.

Whilst this list provides a source of information and ideas for experimental work, it is important to note that recommendations can date very quickly. Do NOT follow suggestions which conflict with current advice from CLEAPSS, SSERC or other recent safety guides. eLibrary users are responsible for ensuring that any activity, including practical work, which they carry out is consistent with current regulations related to Health and Safety and that they carry an appropriate risk assessment.
