Maximising progress for learners with lower prior attainment NY274

Discover technqiues to support students with lower prior attainment and maximise their achievement

Summary

Are you looking for support to maximise the achievement of learners with prior attainment up to grade 5 in GCSE Science?
As there are many reasons for lower prior attainment, we will explore a variety of strategies to maximise learning and engage pupils, whilst maintaining high expectations in the subject. We will also identify interesting contexts to use in your teaching and consider how to help students feel that science is 'for them'.

Who is it for?

Experienced teachers of science, ECTs (Early Career Teachers) of science, subject leaders.

What topics are covered?

  • resources to support- identifying key resources to aid development of learners up to grade 5 and building your own resource bank
  • practical in context- looking across all three sciences and applying everyday context to the core practical work
  • maths in science- strategies to aid learners up to grade 5  to use their mathematics skills across science
  • behaviour for learning- strategies to engage and keep learners on track
  • key strategies for adaptive teaching
  • how to recognise and build on prior learning

This course will be delivered face to face with participant tasks to be completed between sessions.

How long is this course?

This is a four day intensive course split over two periods of two days.
