5 day placements are available with the ASDA Innovation Team, supported by a £1000 ENTHUSE bursary.
The final part of the programme is a one-day professional development experience, held four to six months after your placement.
This opportunity is suitable for primary, secondary and FE teachers or those with additional responsibility for careers.
A placement with the ASDA Innovation Team will introduce you to ASDA’s cycle of product innovation and recipe development. You’ll spend time exploring the fantastic facilities that are available on site, from the Tomato Room and Test Kitchens to the Sensory Booths, all-purpose built to create, develop and test our products.
You will also get chance to gain insight into the ASDA ways of working, Respect for the individual and experience how our colleagues always strive to do the best for our customers and products, through processes such as Quality Testing and Application Panels where you will get to sit in and experience these first-hand.
Your time will also include seeing the various parts of the business, meeting buyers from the trading floor as well as our PR and People Teams. The majority of your time will be spent with the ASDA Innovation team gaining knowledge into their role within the business and learning how innovation drives our industry forward.
The ASDA Innovation Team: the role of the Innovation Team is not only to gain insight through methods like market data research from entities such as Mintel, Kantar & Neilson and FDIN, but also to follow food and drink trends from across the globe (these can be from chefs, restaurants and other retail groups) then by bringing these learning’s back to our ASDA customer through new and innovative products, recipes, packaging and the overall shopping experience.
Going on a placement with the ASDA Innovation Team will help you to:
- inspire your students – see first-hand the wide range of careers available to students in the food industry
- build strong links with a local employer – connect with a local employer to develop staff and student experiences, with the aim of creating a longer term partnership
- gain ideas for future collaboration (eg work experience, mentoring, speakers) and develop your own understanding to inspire your students to consider STEM careers and further study
- enhance your advice on careers options – gain useful information about how to support students to make careers choices within STEM
