Summary
Are you new to teaching A level physics? Even for teachers with a physics background, we know it can be daunting to deliver for the first time.
This course will support you with effective teaching and learning at A level in physics. Common student misconceptions, the key substantive knowledge and practical techniques will be investigated, with lots of hands-on practice to hone your approach to student learning. If you're new to A level, you'll learn how to lead and support outstanding practical physics, linking it to effective pedagogy within the subject.

ECTs and experienced teachers who are new to A level physics
What topics are covered?
During the course we will cover:
- Common physics topics including - forces and motion, waves, electricity, particle theory, materials, and nuclear.
- Mathematical challenges - estimating, order of magnitude calculations, vector manipulation, proportional reasoning, use of decimal places/sig figs, exponentials and logarithms.
- Practical pedagogy - maximising the effectiveness of practical work, turning graphs into straight lines, gradients and intercepts, error analysis. You will undertake most of the key/core/required practicals.
