Summary

Explore the key issues affecting secondary science, through a series of presentations and workshops. Network, share and develop ideas and discuss best practice with other secondary science teachers and heads of department.Please see the listings on the right to find more detail about the focus in your locality.

Workshops will include:

Workshop 1: Improving student examination technique

 In this session we will look at the research behind effective revision techniques and discuss strategies to avoid the blank answer. Different types of question will be considered such as calculation, 6-mark, explain, compare and evaluate responses.

Facilitated by Karen Collins and Amanda Clegg

Amy Brewer will deliver a session updating us on projects around GCSE Sciences and the new AAQs. Amy is from OCR however this session is broadly relevant for everyone. Amy will also include a review from the OCR GCSE and A’ level summer series.

Workshop 2: Adaptive teaching

This session will consider the difference between adaptive teaching and differentiation and its importance. We will consider simple methods to apply in the classroom.

Workshop 3: How do we support non specialists in our department?

We will consider the importance of PCK and how we can effectively support non specialists by high quality CPD.

This section will be facilitated by Amanda and Karen

Spotlight section: Bring one challenge you or your team are currently facing to the table. We will all work collectively to try and provide as many potential solutions for you to take away as possible.
