Primary STEM conference - Making Connections RH124 / B002
Summary
Our primary conference will provide opportunities to make connections both by sharing ideas with other primary practitioners and by making connections with how children develop their learning in STEM subjects. Our focus will be on:
Discovering – the power of noticing using a hands-on approach in science, computing and maths
Discussing – how to effectively use oracy in STEM lessons
Developing – your pupils learning to have real impact in the classroom
We are excited to announce our keynote speaker; Philippa Moore – Headteacher at Windhill21 Primary School.
You will have the opportunity to choose different science, computing and maths workshops during the day (or a mixture of all three STEM subjects) to ensure the conference is tailor made for you:
WORKSHOP 1 (Morning part 1)
- SCIENCE : Discovering a hands-on approach to science
- COMPUTING : Ofsted research review - what it means for primary computing leads
- MATHS : Making space - for developing spatial reasoning improves maths!
WORKSHOP 2 (Morning part 2)
- SCIENCE : Developing science connections beyond the classroom
- COMPUTING : Pedagogy for primary programming
- MATHS : The role of oracy in developing conceptual understanding
WORKSHOP 3 (Afternoon)
- SCIENCE : Talk for science - the art of encouraging curiosity through oracy
- COMPUTING : Introduction to the micro:bit in key stage 2
- MATHS : Manipulatives - a tool or a crutch?
This conference is suitable for all Primary Teachers, including STEM Subject Leaders, Early Years Teachers, Early Career Teachers, Student Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
This is a collaborative conference in association with regional CPD hubs: Herts and Essex Science Learning Partnership, Matrix Maths hub and Saffron Walden County High School Computing hub.
£100 fee per school (maximum of two participants) with a TRP of 50%. Please email stem@herts.ac.uk to check for eligibility.
