Marine Futures Event: Teacher CPD Session RN298 / C23
Summary
The South West is leading a UK revolution in renewable and green technologies, with an ambition to become the greenest economy in England. By 2045, Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) production in the Celtic Sea aims to supply a quarter of the UK’s energy requirements, alongside clean propulsion, aquaculture and green hydrogen. These developments provide the opportunity to transform the economy of the region, through ‘blue & green’ jobs that protect the biosphere, reduce pollution, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and grow the economy.
Teachers have a key role to play in this revolution: by linking core curriculum teaching to the myriad of blue & green career opportunities, and by providing information on the pathways into these jobs, such as T-Levels, apprenticeships and higher education.
The aim of this session is to explore these blue & green careers opportunities and consider how these can be used as a context for teaching. Through case studies and examples we will look at how teachers are accessing support through STEM Ambassadors, Climate Ambassadors, Eco Schools and STEM clubs to deliver ever more relevant contexts for teaching.
