Summary

This event is FREE for Enthuse Partnerships schools in North and West Yorkshire. Once you've signed up, any member of staff from your school can attend any of the workshops, so there's no need to be released from class all day, as staff can dip in and out as convenient! All sessions will also be recorded for you to watch back at your convenience over the following month.

We are offering a collection of short remotely delivered workshops that cover STEM/science content that is often overlooked.  These fast paced sessions will focus on one concept to enhance learning and provide teachers with quick ideas and strategies that they can run within their classrooms to impact learning and engage children.

Outcomes

STEM Fizz WorkshopsWorkshop 1: 9.30am to 10.30am Jane Winter EYFS - Higher Order Thinking in the Early YearsIt is important to encourage all children to use their higher order thinking skills from as early an ageas possible. In this session we will think about what higher order thinking looks like in very youngchildren, explore some activities which support children to develop these important skills anddiscuss how this approach fits in with the early years curriculum.
Workshop 2: 11:00-12noon Hester Binge- Assessing and recording without the pencilWe wouldn’t ask children to show us how proficient they were in Writing by asking them produce apiece of work using the French language, so why do we ask them to show us how good they are atscience by writing in English? This workshop encourages you to find different, creative strategiesthat your children can use to show their proficiency in science, such as role plays, models, persuasive discussions and more. Bonus for you – less time spent marking and an immediateknowledge of where your children are in their science learning.
Workshop 3: 13:00-14:00 Hester Binge- Winning with GamificationWhen children play games, they don’t realise they are learning. Creating their own games linked toa science topic deepens learning, understanding and develops scientific vocabulary. Revisitingthese games and sharing with others impacts on their learning recall and retrieval and imbeds newscience vocabulary . This workshop explores ways to develop more science games in yourlessons.
Workshop 4: 14:30-15:30 Alan Edmiston - Stage not age - seeing the world through theireyes'In order to pitch activities appropriately we need to understand how the SEND learner views theworld. In this session Alan will share a range of easy to use activities that are based upon thestage of development rather than the age of the child. The activities are suitable for a range oflearners but are designed to support those pupils who are delayed in their thinking and may bemany years behind peers of the same age. Supporting the development of a child’s thinking iscritical if we are to support them to access the curriculum and lay the necessary foundation forsecondary schooling.
Workshop 5: 16:00-16.30 Sarah Zaman - micro bits
