Community Lab: Teacher familiarisation workshop - Lab Mix-Up RM298 / B125
Summary
Community Lab provides schools in Kent & Medway with access to an industrial-standard laboratory and equipment that would not traditionally be available to them. Schools are able to come in andcarry out experiments, supported by real scientists that work on the site.
These facilities are free to use including experiment resources.
Community Lab provides:
- Practical sessions that are relevant to the curriculum
- Opportunities for students to do their own research and project work
- CPD opportunities for teachers and technicians
Community Lab Workshops:Lab Mix-UpChemical testing, reactions, reagents, compounds, material structure and properties, reactivity, liquid separation, Thin Layer Chromatography, IR and NMR spectroscopy.PolymerisationPreparation and analysis of Nylon, Polystyrene and Thermosetting polymers, IR spectroscopy.
Teachers need to attend this workshop before booking to bring students to the lab. You will go through the experiment protocols, risk assessments and be shown how to use the equipment with facilitators. Community Lab facilitators will be present on the day of school visits to help and advise, but teachers are expected to run their booked sessions.

*Subsidy of £50 will be available after attending the training session and will be paid by Kent & Medway SLP
