Summary
Using the Gatsby good practical benchmarks as a basis, this session will explore the role of the science technician as the school specialist for practical science in chemistry. We will start with a discussion sharing what we already do and what more we would like to do to influence and support effective practical as well as identifying the barriers faced. We will then move on to explore how we can overcome barriers and achieve equitable practice focusing on the support and resources available to build or refresh subject knowledge and pedagogy to increase confidence and understanding as well as opportunities for recognition.
