Summary

Over the course of the programme participants will receive input across a number of areas including STEM policy, leadership in schools, Health and Safety and more. Participants will also complete a practitioner enquiry and present their findings at a showcase event at the end of the programme.  The Leadership in STEM programme is open to secondary practitioners from classroom level through to senior management. 

Who is it for?

Anyone aspiring to, or currently in, a leadership role in the secondary school setting with a focus on STEM.

What topics are covered?

Participating practitioners will complete 6 Units over the course of the year:  

Unit 1: The STEM Policy Landscape 

Unit 2: Leadership  

Unit 3: Leadership Theory and Practice  

Unit 4: Practitioner Enquiry  

Unit 5: Practitioner Enquiry Showcase  

Unit 6: Enrichment Courses* 

*Unit 6 comprises of 12 short professional learning courses all with a different focus that will further participants knowledge and understanding across a range of areas. Two of these courses are mandatory (Health and Safety & Young STEM Leaders Programme) and a minimum of 4 other courses. 

How will you learn?

A range of face to face, online, independent and remote learning.  Unit 2 is the enthuse funded unit of the course and is entirely face to face at SSERC for 3 days.   

How long is this course?

110 hours of self-study in total with 3 mandatory days at SSERC HQ which are enthuse funded.

Outcomes

Course Aims:

  • develop a strategic and forward-thinking approach to facilitate, initiate and lead change for STEM improvement within an educational setting
  • develop and apply knowledge and understanding of STEM pedagogy to inform practice, extend the use of critical enquiry, reflection skills and data analysis to evaluate and strengthen the impact of practices on self and others
  • enhance interpersonal and personal skills, confidence, and resilience to lead change and development
  • develop skills that support and empower communities to effect change
  • develop support networks for their own personal and professional develop
