Secondary Science Early Career Teacher Network
Being a member of the Science Learning Partnership Early Career Network will support you during your training, NQT and RQT years. Open to all secondary science early career teachers, this network will enable you to engage in the latest research and developments in science education and will provide opportunities to collaborate and share best practice with other early career teachers across the region.
Why subscribe to the network?
Research has shown that science teachers are more likely to leave the profession than teachers of other subjects and that this loss is highest within the first five years of teaching and with increasing demands on ALL teachers, it is harder for departments to offer extra support to early career teachers.
The last academic year has seen science teacher recruitment remain challenging in Greater Manchester. It can also be easier for early career teachers to share concerns and ideas with other same stage teachers.
Our Early Career Teacher network along with the rest of our Early Career Teacher programme of support has been mapped against the Early Career Framework and draws on the recommendations from latest Ofsted reviews relating to science and ITT provision.
Schools who subscribe to the network can send unlimited early career teachers to each of the network sessions.
The network sessions will be held remotely throughout the year and will include:
- Managing behaviour - 11th October, 3:30-5pm
- Developing conceptual understanding - 2nd November, 3:30-5pm
- Misconceptions and threshold concepts - 7th February, 3:30-5pm
- Managing group work - 7th March, 3:30-5pm
- Assessment - 24th April, 3:30-5pm
- Purposeful practical work/practical science making it count - 9th May, 3:30-5pm
