NPQs Leadership webinars from STEM Learning in conjunction with NCETM
Forming part of the NPQ programme for ‘Leading Teaching’ the STEM Learning webinars will provide participants with the opportunity to discover engaging primary subject-specific, support in science, mathematics and/or computing. By exploring best practice and interacting with research, participants will be able to consider ‘where to start?’ in developing your approach to improving science, mathematics and/or computing in their school(s).
Each 90 minute session will be led by primary subject specific experts and will introduce participants to 3 key areas: Pedagogy; Curriculum and Assessment. The mathematics session will be delivered by Dr Debbie Morgan CBE, Director for mathematics at NCETM, Emma Patman, Assistant director primary mathematics at NCETM and Elizabeth Lambert, Assistant director for mathematics at NCETM.
During these sessions, participants will be asked to consider what science/ mathematics/computing provision is like in their school, and how to find out more through subject specific auditing. Subject leaders will also be able to use this information to develop a whole school action plan designed to improve teaching and learning in their chosen subject.

What topics are covered?
Leadership of Curriculum – this part of the session will focus on how to support colleagues to design a carefully sequenced and coherent mathematics curriculum. This would include consideration of the inherent structures within mathematics, in particularly number and identification of important knowledge, skills and concepts.
Leadership of Assessment – this part of the session will focus on the nature and purpose of assessment in mathematics and how to ensure consistent and effective practice across a school.
Leadership of Pedagogy – this part of the session will focus on the effective teaching of mathematics and will support participants in developing pedagogy across their school by understanding how effective pedagogies can transform pupils’ knowledge, capabilities and beliefs about learning.
