Summary

how do I teach sustainability in science?

The Secretary of State for Education  Nadhim Zahawi, has stated that;

“Education is critical to fighting climate change.  We have both the responsibility and privilege of educating and preparing young people for a changing world ensuring they are equipped with the right knowledge, understanding and skills to meet their biggest challenge head on.”

 Sustainability & Climate Change A draft strategy for the education & children’s services systems is now being considered in parliament. Children are aware of what is happening in their world and how it will impact their future lives, so we have a duty to respond to their concerns through the lessons which teach.

This course aims to start unpicking the draft proposal and what it could mean for your science lessons. We will take time during the session to see how the science curriculum is an excellent place to start these discussions and look at some activities and strategies that we could use to equip and prepare the young people we teach to become more sustainable.

Outcomes

  • Understand what engages children and learn how to maximise their science learning.
  • Explore innovative ways, resources, techniques, and models of excellent practice to support sustainability through the science curriculum.
  • Develop cross-curricular links to other areas of the curriculum.
