Science leads and teachers delivering science at school.
Sessions:
Session 1:
  • Working scientifically from EYFS to KS4 – Victoria Rigby
  • What does working scientifically look like at each key stage? This session is an opportunity to experience practical activities and reflect on how to assess pupils enquiry and working scientifically skills. It will help you to plan for progression in your teaching of enquiry and working scientifically skills. 
Session 2: 
  • Using models and analogies effectively in science lessons KS3 and 4 – Harry Hayes
  • Models and analogies, when used effectively, can enable pupils to understand difficult concepts, build on prior learning and address misconceptions. This session will explore the characteristics of an effective model and look at examples which can be used in the classroom. 
Session 3
  • Effective Practical and enquiry lessons in science – what works? - Victoria Rigby
  • This practical session will look at what the research says about effective practical work and let you have a go with your colleagues. We will consider how practical work is essential in securing understanding for pupils in science.
Session 4: 
  • SKE primary transition, animals and humans and living things – Heather Campbell
  • The purpose of this session is to enhance the understanding of the subject knowledge required to teach Animals (including humans) and Living Things and their Habitats at KS1/KS2 level and how this will prepare learners for KS3.

  • To have collaborated with other science teachers to explore how to ensure pupils develop working scientifically skills in science lessons (particularly the interplay of substantive and disciplinary knowledge)
