Course outline:
The waves topic is usually met in Year 12 and rapidly progresses beyond the familiar territory of GCSE. This one-hour course is for those new to teaching A level, or those in need of a refresher. It aims to strengthen the subject knowledge needed to teach this key topic. You will explore ways of revising and building student understanding from GCSE and overcoming misconceptions, together with techniques for teaching.

Course outcomes:

You will be:

  • Familiar with the properties of waves and the associated terminology
  •  Confident with the mathematical demands of using radians and the graphical treatment of superposition
  • Able to analyse features of standing waves
  • Equipped with a road map for teaching this topic including some practical contexts

This is part of a series of 3 workshops which will  help you gain confidence in your understanding of physics and your ability to teach it engagingly. You will be introduced to lots of ideas and resources to help in your teaching and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
