Summary

Many Primary Science Leaders and teachers are confident  with the basic ideas behind Science Capital and are now ready for the next step of supporting and encouraging further understanding for increasing the aspirations of their pupils into the STEM careers sector.

Various research documents and science charities such as the Wellcome Trust have shown that ‘ the ability to embed careers through the curriculum is crucial to supporting young people to contextualise learning and better understand the wide variety of opportunities open to them’. This training is about giving teachers and science leaders top tips about resources to use and how to tweak the already squashed school timetable to accommodate opportunities to give pupils real-life examples of how their subject relates to the world around them. In the long term this will  hopefully increase the pupils enjoyment and commitment to learning and maybe even give them that eye opening moment to see potential careers in the aspect of science which they love.

You may think that careers in general is for secondary schools but in fact, ‘the evidence suggests that teachers, from key stage 1 onwards, play an important role in shaping the perceptions of children and young adults about science, mathematics and all other subjects, along with their aspirations, career choice and the progression route that they might choose to get onto their chosen STEM career path.’
