Summary
This is a chance for collaboration with your peers so you can share information and develop as a leader. Expert consultants will help you identify priority issues in teaching and learning and professional development for your teams. You will be able to develop solutions, drawing on the expertise within the group. This strengthening of informal school-to-school support will create an effective network of information, advice and guidance.
Agenda
- CAGs – discussion – Nick Pollock
- If we ever have to do this again, what would we do differently
- Could teacher assessments return (as in KS1 and KS2)?
- Thoughts about the Ofsted Science Review documents – Ant Snowden
- Having slept on it, what are your thoughts in terms of action points arising from it?
- A meta-analysis of 250 research and evidence documents is too valuable not to dwell on!
- The Five Pillars Alternative curriculum model for KS3 – Haydn Jones
- A narrower but deeper 1 year model for Y9 (with all the key ideas still in there)
- This model was developed some years ago and used in a number of Shropshire and Telford schools, with very dramatic results
- Haydn Jones was one of the teacher who took this National Strategy concept and developed it into a set of schemes of work
- Using models to help students develop and understanding of abstract concepts and composite - Nick Pollock
- How do we support learners in developing an understanding of composite abstracts?
- Do we prepare the groundwork in KS3 well enough using a range of models?
- Integrating the language of scientific enquiry and measurement into our teaching – Ant Snowden
- Every year examiners reports highlight the inadequate and vague use of vocabulary associated with scientific enquiry and measurement
- In many cases students show little progress from KS2 and simply identifying ‘fairness’
- How can we plan for more effective development of scientific vocabulary and what resources and techniques could we use?
Who is the course leader?
