Summary

Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses – support for anyone teaching KS3 or KS4 physics and looking to deepen their understanding of these three important topics: forces, circuits and energy. Ideal for non-specialists (those teaching physics outside their degree specialism), early-careers teachers, NQTs, trainees
KS3/KS4 Physics - ForcesAn understanding of forces underpins much of physics. In this workshop we will look at how to label forces clearly, busting some common misconceptions in the process, use a knowledge of resultant forces to predict motion and explain Newton’s 3 laws of motion.
KS3/KS4 Physics - CircuitsUsing models and simulations we will explore the meanings of voltage and current, using these to understand circuits better. Drawing on the ‘maths last’ approach we will tackle GCSE-style circuit problems.
KS3/KS4 Physics - Energy StoresNobody really knows what energy is! However, the concept has relevance to all three sciences. The new approach of energy stores and pathways may still be unfamiliar to many. We will introduce some useful models to help understanding and tools to support teaching, with plenty of examples to embed the ideas involved.

Outcomes

This is part of a series of 3 workshops which will  help you gain confidence in your understanding of physics and your ability to teach it engagingly. You will be introduced to lots of ideas and resources to help in your teaching and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.Book for all 3 to gain real immersion in the subject or pop into individual workshops for help with a particular topic. If you would like to book all of 3 workshops the cost will be £50 for maintained schools and £100 for non-maintained schools.
