Summary
There is an increased mathematical demand in both the GCSE and A level physics specifications. This course is ideal for teachers of physics who want to improve their understanding of the mathematics, to successfully teach A level physics.
Explore teaching strategies for a wide range of mathematical topics in a physics context including: proportional reasoning, algebra, graphs, calculus, logarithms and exponentials.
Learn the mathematics behind the physics in order to teach for understanding.
Who is it for?
Teachers of physics who are currently teaching A level or aspire to teach A level physics in the future.
What topics are covered?
This two-day course covers:
- Proportional reasoning: dealing with proportionality in a physics context
- Algebra: solving equations, rearranging equations
- Graphs: drawing, reading information, finding gradients and interpreting
- Calculus: differentiation and integration what do the results tell us?
- Logarithms and exponential: what are they and how do we teach them?
- The mathematics behind mechanics practicals: derivation of SUVART equations, exploring moments
