Summary
This Online, self-paced course provides guidance to support your role as an online facilitator on STEM Learning’s open online courses delivered through FutureLearn. You will explore approaches to online facilitation and develop the technical skills required of online facilitators within the FutureLearn platform.
The course also provides an induction to the online CPD programme on FutureLearn, enabling you to connect participants’ needs with related courses and address queries about how the programme operates.
Completion of this module will enable you to facilitate your first online course. Through your first online course you will be asked to undertake a short peer-review and reflection activity which, upon successful completion, will entitle you to CPD Quality Mark - Associate Online Facilitator status.
Who is the course for?
This course is for facilitators of STEM Learning’s online CPD programme.

This course takes around three hours to complete and you do not need to be online at any specific time.
Outcomes
- Apply an understanding of online facilitation approaches to support participants’ professional learning in open online courses
- Produce course summaries in written and video formats that highlight learning points from a course
- Develop course emails that engage participants and encourage them to undertake course activities
- Reflect on your approach to online facilitation and make changes to improve your practice to best support online participants
