Science in the Early Years RH198 / D65
Summary
In this session led by Jane Winter we will think about why it is important to teach science in EYFS and how this can be done in a way that promotes child led learning and planning in the moment. We will also look at some adult led provocations and practical activities that will promote children's questioning and explorations.
Jane worked as a teacher in Lincolnshire schools for many years teaching Nursery, Reception and combined EYFS/KS1 classes. She also carried out science outreach work in local nurseries and twice led her school to achieve a gold Primary Science Quality Mark. She is now employed by the University of York as a Professional Development Leader for the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration. She delivers science and maths courses at the National STEM centre, works as an advisory science teacher and writes training materials for teachers of early years and primary science.
