Summary

Please note this course is designed for technicians that are new to the role and is not suitable for experienced technicians.

The course will help technicians gain skills in managing an effective technical service, tasks, time management, prioritising, requisitions and storage. Health and safety is a key aspect and this course will address risk assessments, chemical storage and policies and procedures.  Finally the course will adress the the ways technicians can support effective practical work in the classroom, through set up of experiments, schemes of work and top prepping tips.

Outcomes

Participants will:  

  • examine the roles and responsibilities of a school science technician, and begin to reflect on what makes an effective technician
  • gain an understanding of how to run a safe technical service with correct risk assessment procedures in place, safe chemical storage and clear policies and procedures
  • explore what makes practical work effective and understand key pieces of equipment.
