Summary

 

This session will look at the knowledge rich and skill based science curriculum and the different strategies that are involved in teaching these two aspects of science alongside each other.  The course will look at the ‘Big Ideas’ in science and how they can be used to design your school based science curriculum. It will also identify the common misconceptions in Science and how the role of modelling and dual coding can assist in teaching the abstract and more complicated scientific ideas.

Outcomes

 

  • You will gain:-

    • a knowledge of the key science skills and subject content that needs to be covered in the Secondary Science Curriculum  
    • an understanding of how to design a science curriculum using the ‘big ideas’
    • an understanding of how to teach science skills alongside the science curriculum
    • ideas of how to teach the more abstract and complicated science ideas using modelling and dual coding strategies
