Join us for a slightly different approach to our annual event! Each of our three online sessions will be 1 hour long and you can attend any or all sessions that you would find useful. Simply join the relevant session via the link 10 mins before the session start. Time is available at the end of each session to ask questions.
Itinerary
12:30 13:30 Session 1 - Assessment for Learning - This hour-long session is for those who are new to assessing primary science. We will:
- explore a number of assessment strategies for finding out what children know and understand.
- look at how we can use PLAN resources for quality assuring our teacher assessments.
13:45 14:45 Session 2 - Working scientifically - In this session teachers will learn about the different ways that children work scientifically to answer a scientific question.We will:
- Explore different enquiry types
- Look at resources to support assessing how children work scientifically
- Consider progression in working scientifically
15:00 16:00 Session 3 - Using the outdoors - This session will cover tips for working outdoors with children, the logistics and practical ideas.We will:
- Look at a range of material available through the Primary Science Teaching Trust and other organisations to support learning outside
- Run through practical tips for running outdoor learning sessions
- Share ideas for which parts of the science curriculum can be covered outdoors.
- Explore some common misconceptions re plants.
Outcomes
This is a regional event for primary science teachers throughout Southend, Essex & Thurrock and has been organised by Southend, Essex & Thurrock Science Learning Partnership (SLP). We provide quality, subject-specific Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and support for primary, secondary & FE across the region as a STEM Learning partner.

Our remote CPD courses for teachers are delivered across a series of sessions run at specific times and dates. Information on all course sessions can be found under the description of each course. To complete a course, all sessions are mandatory.
