Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST) aims to build a bridge between research in science education and teaching in school science lessons, by developing resources that drawn on robust research findings.  The Education Endowment Foundation's 2018 guidance report Improving Secondary Science cites Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST) as a good source of diagnostic questions and activities that promote metacognitive talk and dialogue.

These sessions will be facilitated by Peter Fairhurst from BEST development team at the University of York Science Education Group.

You will have opportunities to:

  • develop a shared understanding of effective diagnostic questioning to support metacognitive talk and dialogue
  • use and reflect on resources and strategies to support strong progression from key stage 2 to key stage 3
  • share effective approaches with key stage 2 and key stage 3 colleagues
  • explore the underpinning research and how that can support your classroom practice
