Summary

Engage with a wide variety of sessions designed to help improve your teaching of Key Stage 5 chemistry.
This course provides many opportunities to be reconnected with the frontiers of industrial chemistry and academic research.  The aim is to enable you to improve the teaching of KS5 chemistry by engaging in a wide variety of stimulating sessions which will employ new skills and ideas.
With a strong focus on practical work, you will work alongside teachers and research scientists to develop strategies to help students learn and understand chemistry effectively.  You will be able to share ideas and hear from cutting edge researchers to help inspire and engage your students’ in one of the most fascinating areas of science.  Fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.  

Who is it for?

For experienced teachers of post-16 looking to gain new ideas and those who have attended 'New to teaching A level Chemistry (NY251).'

  • tackling redox
  • practical work to engage and challenge
  • transition metal chemistry
  • structure and bonding
  • spectroscopy
  • equilibria
  • presentations and workshops with current academic researchers and industrial chemists

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 
  • demonstrate ways to make the teaching of chemistry more engaging and inspiring by making links to current research and industrial applications
  • identify misconceptions held by your students and develop a variety of teaching approaches to counter these
  • practise and evaluate a range of innovative practical work activities and approaches for teaching chemistry
  • describe developments in some key areas of contemporary chemistry
