Summary

New to the role of head of science or are you ready to take on the challenge and looking to aquire the necessary skills to gain promotion? This course is designed to provide the strategies and techniques you will need to be successful. This course focuses on four ongoing themes within a science context: strategic leadership and management, leading teams and change, outstanding teaching and learning as well as supporting and enriching learning. This course will be delivered over a number of sessions, some of which will be delivered remotely on the days and times detailed below, with those later in the year being delivered face to face at the National STEM Learning Centre in York. To participate in full, you will need to ensure you have dedicated time away from the classroom for the remotely delivered elements of this course, as you would if this were a face to face course. We will take regular breaks and structure the content so that it is interactive and impactful. You must attend all sessions in order to receive the bursary, and sessions will not be recorded. How long is the course?

This is a 9 day intensive blended remote delivered and residential course, broken down into three periods of three days each. The first 3 days of this intensive CPD will be delivered remotely, with the remaining six days being delivered face to face.

  • Gill Gunnill Secondary Biology Professional Development Leader, based at the National STEM Learning Centre in York.

  • Tim Bradbury Secondary Chemistry Professional Development Leader, based at the National STEM Learning Centre in York.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    ✔️   articulate how a range of approaches can be employed to support snd enrich students' experiences in science
